Buenas todos!! If you didn’t know, I’m in Guatemala I’m staying at an AIM base in Parramos, about an hour from Antigua Guatemala, and I truly feel so deeply thankful for this season. It’s been incredible to be able to use my Spanish to love and minister to so many people. GUYS I LOVE THIS LIFE!!
Guatemala has been filled with the sweetest memories: riding the chicken bus into Antigua (an EXPERIENCE ), walking through Parramos and seeing what feels like 75 cuchos (street dogs), freezing mornings and nights, activation days, and every kid smiling and calling you “gringo.” But more than anything, it’s the people. The culture here is so rich, so welcoming, and so full of love. It’s been such a gift to partner with the Lord in making His name known here.
“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!” — Psalm 96:3
But if I’m honest, while this country has been full of SO much freedom, there have also been quiet battles. The enemy has tried to bring insecurity into my life and even into my time here. There have been moments where comparison, doubt, and fear tried to creep in and steal what God was doing. And it’s been difficult at times.
But in the middle of that, the Lord has been teaching me how to fight not with striving, not with emotion, but with His Word. I’ve learned the importance of speaking Scripture out loud. Of using the Word as a sword. When lies come, I answer with truth. When insecurity whispers, I declare what He says about me. There is power in proclaiming truth over yourself. Freedom isn’t passive — sometimes it’s fought for on your knees with the Bible open. And I’ve watched Him be faithful every single time.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18
I get to serve with a ministry called Reindom it’s like a church camp and it’s SO fun. Before ministry each day, we spend about an hour and a half worshiping, praying, and just sitting with the Father. Truly, nothing compares to His presence. What a gift it is to sit with Him in intimacy.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” — James 4:8
On Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays we shop for the kids, clean the Reindom house, worship, and then take a chicken bus into the village. We teach English and Bible lessons and play soccer. These kids are PURE JOY.
On Wednesdays we go to Parramos CarePoint. We leave at 6:15am (and yes, it’s freezing ) and cook breakfast pancakes, eggs and beans, grilled cheese, breakfast burritos then we serve the kids and sit with them while they eat.
There’s one sweet friend I met named Charley. When I first noticed him, he would intentionally sit alone not with his siblings, not with his grandparents just by himself. The staff said he usually eats and leaves. The Lord truly broke my heart for him.
So I started sitting with him every week. At first he barely talked, but slowly he opened up. One day we sat together for two hours and I taught him English and he was so eager to learn. He told me he didn’t have any friends and that I was his only one. That broke my heart. But what a privilege it is to simply sit, love, and be consistent.
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18
Sometimes ministry isn’t a microphone. It’s a breakfast table. It’s eye contact. It’s choosing to sit with the one who sits alone.
I was also invited to lunch by a precious mom and her two little boys (7 and 5). Their kindness and hospitality moved me so deeply. The people here truly are my favorite part of this country.
This season has been full of prayer, intercession, surrender, repentance, and freedom. One of the biggest things the Lord has been teaching me is daily repentance. Not shame. Not striving. Just humble surrender.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9
It’s such a gift that we don’t have to clean ourselves up before coming to Him. We just come. We repent. We fall at His feet. And He cleanses us. It’s a DAILY posture.
One image that was shared here that has stayed with me is this: we are a bride with stains on our dress. And so often we get consumed trying to scrub the stains out ourselves. But all He asks is that we fix our eyes on Him.
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” — Hebrews 12:2
When we look at Him, He does the purifying.
When we seek His face, He does the transforming.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God.” — Psalm 51:10
We don’t have to strive. We just have to look at Him. That’s all He wants. This country has also reminded me of the power of intercession. The power of praying for someone and seeing them through the Father’s eyes. When we come to Him humbly, He listens.
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” — James 5:16
“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.” — Psalm 116:1
He bends His ear toward us. He cherishes conversation with His children.
And when it feels like He’s silent, it’s not because He doesn’t hear us it’s because He is shaping our hearts. In 1 Kings 19, He doesn’t speak in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire but in the still small whisper. Sometimes we miss Him because we’re looking for something loud. Sometimes we ask, “What about my future?” when He’s inviting us to ask, “Father, what’s on Your heart?”
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33
Living on this base has felt like luxury hot water, cooks who bless us with meals, even a soccer field. But the sweetest part has been my squad the laughter, the worship, the vulnerability, the late-night conversations. So much love. As I reflect on this season, the biggest theme the Lord has been writing on my heart is repentance and surrender. Not a one-time moment, but a daily posture. Freedom isn’t found in striving harder, it’s found in humbly laying everything down at His feet. Every morning feels like an invitation to say, “Father, not my will, but Yours.” And every time I surrender, He proves Himself faithful.
Guatemala has stretched my heart and deepened my trust in Him. I’m learning that obedience in the small things, loving one person well, and simply being available can make an eternal impact.
If there’s anything I could encourage you with, it would be this:
Stop staring at the stains. Start staring at the Savior. Maybe your “Guatemala” isn’t another country. Maybe it’s your school, your workplace, your family, or your friend group. Ask the Lord, “Who is the one person I can love intentionally this week?” Sit with the one who sits alone. Pray boldly. Speak Scripture when insecurity tries to creep in. Fight with truth. Fix your eyes on Jesus instead of your imperfections. Jeremiah 29:13 tells us when we seek we will find, so seek him.
In Guatemala I don’t just see memories I see transformation. I see a Father who gently corrected me, defended me, and reminded me who I am when insecurity tried to speak louder than truth. I see a God who met me at breakfast tables, on chicken buses, in freezing early mornings, and in quiet whispers. Guatemala hasn’t just been a place I visited it’s been an altar. A place where I’ve laid things down and picked up freedom. A place where I’ve learned that the Kingdom isn’t built in grand moments, but in daily surrender. It’s built at breakfast tables. It’s built when we choose to sit with the one who feels forgotten. It’s built when we open our mouths and declare truth over lies. I’m leaving this season more in love with Jesus, more aware of His voice, and more confident that His Word truly is our weapon and our peace. Wherever you are don’t underestimate your obedience. Don’t underestimate the power of speaking Scripture out loud. Don’t underestimate what God can do with a surrendered heart. He is closer than you think. He is faithful to finish what He starts. And He delights in walking with you, right where you are.
